It is annoying when you try to skip the parts of a song on Spotify, overdragging the playback and eventually ruining the listening experience. This gets even worse when you have to skip parts for as little as 5 to 10 seconds.
Spotify allows us to speed up the playback, but only for podcasts. Unfortunately, there is no official playback control feature to increase the speed of songs. But is that the end of the road, or is there any workaround to it?
Yes, there is. Let’s get to it!
Changing the Playback Speed of Songs on Spotify
As of now, accessing the web version on a computer is the only way to do this. Chrome extensions are not currently available for phone apps.
Follow the below steps:
- Open the Chrome browser on your computer.
- Visit the Chrome Web Store.
- Type in “Spotify playback speed” in the search bar. This will enlist extensions that enable adjusting the playback speed.
- Add a credible extension (Spotify Playback Speed).
- Click on the “Extensions” icon on the top right of the screen on Chrome.
- Locate the installed extension and pin it.
- Restart Chrome and open the web player.
- You should be able to see a small menu somewhere from the extension (click on the installed extension if you are not able to see a menu). There should be a speedometer-like icon to adjust the speed of a track.

Wrap Up!
There has always been quite a buzz around this topic in the community forum, but they haven’t addressed it yet. Nevertheless, the workaround I shared above shall work just fine. If you have any other concerns, please comment below.
