Are you tired of your old Spotify downloads? Or, do you have random songs added to your playlist? You’ve come to the right place. The process to remove them is quite simple and can be completed with just a few clicks.
You can undownload songs from any platform — Android, iOS, or Desktop app. Below are the steps for each of them.
Removing Downloaded Songs on Spotify Mobile
Note: The steps remain the same for both Android and iPhone.
- Open the Spotify app.
- Tap on “Your Library” on the lower right.
- Tap on the album or the playlist you want to remove to open it.
- Inside the album/playlist, tap the green button with a down arrow.
- The green button will turn black – this means that it has been removed.
Note: A similar approach can be used to remove podcasts as well. However, unlike songs, you can remove individual episodes from your downloads.
Removing Downloads on Spotify Desktop
- Open the Spotify desktop app.
- Look for “Your Library” on the bar on the left.
- Scroll sideways to find “Downloaded”.
- Select the album or the playlist you want to remove.
- On the right pane, click on the green circle with the down arrow.
- In the prompt that appears, click “Remove”.
Alternatively, after you click on “Downloaded”, you can right-click on the album you want to remove, and click on “Download” over there. Since this is already downloaded, the prompt will be to remove it just like when unliking songs.
Fun Fact: Removing unnecessary downloads will free up some storage, preventing errors like Spotify search not working.
Frequently Asked Questions
Spotify does not download songs automatically. However, it does store some liked and frequently played songs in its cache which takes up space on the phone. If your Spotify plays random songs, there can be several reasons for it.
This feature is no longer available on Spotify. In the past, you could delete individual songs from your listening history but that cannot be done anymore.
Open the Spotify app and head to the settings on the top right. There, go to storage, and then proceed to click on the “Delete Cache” option.
Wrap Up!
Thankfully, deleting a downloaded playlist is as easy as downloading. However, there are times we go overboard and download a lot of songs and albums for offline playback. However, after a while, we realize that it is not possible to keep all of them on the device as they occupy quite a bit of space.
You might also get bored of listening to the same songs repeatedly. It is okay to let go of the songs you have outgrown. I hope this article helped you gain a better insight into how to remove downloaded songs from Spotify.
