Basic Questions
One simple model powers short drama apps. What you watch are bite-size vertical episodes. The first handful are free. After that, episodes cost coins or a pass. Most of the confusion begins with that split. These five answers Think Again, I’m the Hidden Heiress free are the place to start.
What is a short drama app, exactly?
Vertical video designed for phones is what it streams. Each series is split into many bite-size episodes. Plots lean on billionaires, revenge and hidden-identity reveals. Well liked too are werewolf romances. ReelShort, DramaBox, ShortMax and My Drama lead the market. The format first appeared in China, under the name duanju.
How long does each episode run?
One to two minutes is the norm for most. Western productions often aim for 60 to 100 seconds. A series usually runs 20 to 100 episodes. ReelShort lists 90 installments for Married at First Sight. Double Life, a ReelShort hit, lists 60. In length, a full series can rival a movie.
Why do episodes stop right at cliffhangers?
That is usually the point where free episodes end. ReelShort says its first 5 to 15 are usually free. Reports from the industry cite 8 to 10. The lock tends to arrive right at peak tension. The business model rests on that timing. It is also a leading viewer complaint.
Who are the owners of ReelShort, DramaBox and My Drama?
Crazy Maple Studio in Sunnyvale, California owns ReelShort. China’s COL Group is the backer of that studio. DramaBox is operated by StoryMatrix of Singapore, which belongs to Beijing Dianzhong Technology. My Drama is a Holywater product, and Holywater was founded in Kyiv in 2020. Fox Entertainment picked up an equity stake in October 2025. ReelShort launched in 2022, DramaBox in 2023.
Can I watch in a web browser or on TV?
Yes, within limits. There is an Apple TV app for My Drama. We found no verified ReelShort TV app at all. On ReelShort’s website, you can sign in with Google, Facebook, Apple, TikTok or email. The app and the site sync your progress. You can get free unlocks only in the app.
Pricing
Money questions get asked most. The figures shown are US App Store prices as of September 2026. Country, platform and promotion all affect them. Take every number as approximate. Check the price screen first, every time. The listings show the following.
Is ReelShort free?
Partly, and the free part is genuine. The catch is what people searching “is reel short free” or “is reel short app free” are after. There is no charge for the download. The opening episodes are free. For later ones, you need coins or a VIP pass. Ads and check-ins earn free coins.
How do coins work?
Coins are the currency that opens episodes. An episode runs roughly 60 coins, says ReelShort’s blog. Its smallest pack offers 500 coins for roughly $4.99. Larger packs tack on extra coins. Watching one rewarded ad unlocks two episodes. A 7-day check-in streak earns 100+ coins.
Do the coins expire?
It depends from app to app. ReelShort says free reward coins usually run out. Coins you paid for do not. Things work differently at My Drama. Its terms forfeit coins after 12 months of inactivity. Use reward coins first, and stay active.
How much is a weekly pass?
The typical US price is about $19.99 a week. You will see it listed by ReelShort, ShortMax, DramaWave, GoodShort and My Drama. Cheaper tiers show up in some apps. GoodShort starts near $5.99, and ShortMax lists $9.99. Each of these passes renews automatically. Forget for four weeks and you pay four times as much.
Are there any monthly or yearly plans?
A few apps offer them. ReelShort’s blog puts a yearly plan at roughly $199.99. The monthly price differs from page to page. So we treat that figure as unconfirmed. DramaWave’s listing shows roughly $36.99 a month. In the US, ShortMax offers weekly passes only.
Can I watch for free, without paying?
Yes, provided you are patient. Begin by watching each series’ free opening episodes. Unlock more by watching rewarded ads. Maintain a daily check-in streak. ReelShort’s official YouTube, TikTok and Dailymotion channels are a further option. Using all four together goes furthest.
Managing and Cancelling Subscriptions
Until you stop them, weekly passes keep renewing. Plenty of people are surprised by that. It is quick to cancel once you know where. Where you cancel depends on how you paid. Purchases made in a store are cancelled by that store. Purchases on a website are the company’s to handle.
Does deleting the app cancel my subscription?
No, and plenty of people make this mistake. Apple says removing an app does not cancel its subscription. Google says the same about uninstalling. My Drama’s terms carry the same warning. The pass does not stop renewing until you cancel. Cancel first, then delete.
How can I cancel on iPhone?
Begin by opening the Settings app. Tap your name at the top. Then select Subscriptions. Tap the drama app. Tap Cancel and confirm the cancellation. To be safe, act a day before renewal.
How do I cancel a subscription on Android?
First, open the Google Play Store app. Next, go to your Subscriptions list. There, pick the drama app. Tap Cancel and follow the prompts. Remember, uninstalling cancels nothing. To confirm the change, recheck the list.
Can I cancel inside the app?
Sometimes, but going through the store is safer. ShortMax’s terms point to an in-app option under About Subscription. For store buyers, they point to App Store or Google Play. Only what Apple and Google billed is under their control. Website buyers should get in touch with the company. Screenshot each and every cancellation.
Why did I get charged after a free trial?
The wording of trials can confuse. ShortMax’s developer concedes its “free trial” and “24 hours free” labels confused people. Its terms say passes renew 24 hours before they expire. The renewal costs the same price. Make sure to cancel a day before any trial ends. After that, confirm the store shows it cancelled.
Getting Refunds
Refunds come down to who took your money. Google handles Play charges. Apple deals with App Store charges. Companies handle website charges. No route can guarantee a refund. Each path is mapped in this table.
| Where you bought | Cancelling | Refund path | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone (App Store) | Settings, your name, Subscriptions, Cancel | The Report a Problem page from Apple | Deleting the app won’t cancel |
| Android (Google Play) | Google Play, Subscriptions, Cancel | Google within 48 hours, later the developer | Uninstalling won’t cancel |
| Website | Your account or support at the app company | Only the app company | Often non-refundable, per My Drama’s terms |
How can I get an Apple refund?
Start at Apple’s Report a Problem page. Sign in with the paying Apple ID. Choose the charge, then explain briefly. Apple usually replies within 24 to 48 hours. Apple decides, not the app developer. Cancel the pass as well, or it will renew.
How do Google Play refunds work?
Here, timing matters most. Within 48 hours of purchase, you may get a refund, according to Google. Send the request directly through Google Play. After that window, get in touch with the developer. ReelShort directs users to Profile, then Feedback. If a renewal surprises you, act fast.
What about purchases made on a website?
Those purchases go through the app company. Apple and Google cannot help with those. Web purchases are non-refundable except where law requires, according to My Drama’s terms. Under its terms, EU and UK users have a 14-day withdrawal right. Other companies write their own rules. Read the terms before you pay online.
Can I refund unused coins?
Usually not, and the terms state it. My Drama’s terms treat coin purchases as final. Unless its own fault makes a product unusable, ShortMax refuses refunds. Requests through the store may help with accidental buys. Until a series hooks you, buy the smallest coin pack. Mistakes then cost less.
Look-Alike Apps and Safety

Name confusion is rampant here. A misspelling can lead to little-known unrelated apps. A few of the downloads are unsafe. Some sites are copies of big brands. Your money is protected by using real names. Real and fake are sorted out in these answers.
Is Real Short an app?
No, not that we were able to find. ReelShort is the correct spelling, and Real Short is a misspelling of it. Other variants are “real short app”, “realshot”, “reel shot” and likely “shot shorts”. The real name is one word, not two. On the App Store, its seller is New Leaf Publishing. Check that before you download.
What are ReelBox, DailyShort and GoldShort TV, exactly?
They are small apps, and they are unrelated. Found via “reel box” or “reelbox tv”, ReelBox has 50K+ Android installs. There is no link between it and ReelShort or DramaBox. DailyShort, which people often type as “daily short”, has 100K+ installs. GoldShort TV, an Android TV app, has 10K+ installs. Most people searching probably mean GoodShort.
Is ShortTV the same as ShortMax?
Very likely, but unconfirmed. SHORTTV LIMITED in Hong Kong is ShortMax’s legal entity. ShortMax’s website redirects to ShortTV’s site. Both launched in September 2023. We found no official rename announcement. Searches for “short tv” or “short max” also turn up unrelated apps.
Can mod APKs and coin generators be trusted?
No, and none are official. A mod APK is an altered app copy from outside official stores. An unofficial modified version is how one DramaBox look-alike labels its download. Coin generators are not official either. You can’t check what they actually do. Use official stores and websites and nothing else.
Why is ReelShort rated so low on Trustpilot?
ReelShort’s Trustpilot page displays 1.3 out of 5 from 250 reviews. Reviewers frequently complain about charges after cancelling. Weekly auto-renewals are mentioned often. Others complain about coin prices and refused refunds. What any review site reflects is the people who chose to post. Treat it as a list of things to check, not a verdict.
